Welcome, one and all, to the first day of the rest of my life.
About Me
Hello! Elizabeth Felton, here. I was born and raised in Chicago, but am a recent transplant to the west coast. And I mean, REALLY recent – as in as of only 6 weeks! I’d been talking about leaving the city for a while *cough years*, though, it was not because of the crime or infrastructure, but because I’d always felt I needed to do so in order to grow. In 2018, I left my job of 18+ years to figure out my destiny (and because of my inability to grow with the company I loved). I’d initially wanted to move to West Bend, WI, but, despite the amazing art community, leaving cold for colder was not appealing! After a candid conversation with someone special (and jumping out of a plane on my 40th birthday), the idea of making my home in Henderson, Nevada became an immediate goal.
Now, traditionally, I’m a planner. I like having a strategy, from figuring out my day to just about everything else. I’ve found, with experience, that plans don’t always go as expected, but, more often than not, they do. Nearly everything about the move was chaotic, and though it ended up being WAY more expensive than I’d originally hoped, we got there in the end. No one likes moving, and believe me, having to pack, dispose of, give away, donate or put in storage, the minutiae of my adult life SUCKED. My 8 year-old son has been one of the highlights, as his enthusiasm was greater than my own. Before you ask, I homeschool, and have been doing it for 3 years.
Why Nevada, you ask? To be perfectly honest, last winter was a nightmare. -54 degrees in January? Polar vortexes (vortices?)? Um..no thank you. Cali was out of the question (too expensive and earthquakes), as was moving below the Mason-Dixon, or southwest (snakes and other creepy crawlies). I needed to carve out my niche somewhere known, but not so much. We’re just outside of Las Vegas, though…go figure!
Okay, that’s enough about me – I’ll expand more at a later date, as I’m super excited to get started! This journey will be filled with humor, insight, and hopefully something to fill the empty spaces. Let’s get this road on a show!
Disclaimer: Things will be choppy initially until I find my footing, so bear with me a bit until then. Oh, and there may be some swearing…😉
