Everyone loves these lists, whether they want to admit it or not😉
It’s a guilty pleasure of mine to check media outlets and gorge myself on whatever bits of info people compile. So much so that I put together a lil’ nugget of my own. I’m looking forward to what this next decade has in store, but we’ve got to leave behind some not-so-savory shenanigans. This post may not contain popular opinions, but they’re mine, so, we’ll agree to disagree😁
Here goes!
10. Bullying.
This has become so problematic that children are taking their lives because of it. And I mean babies, 8 years old or younger. It needs to be continually addresed in the home, in schools, and across every platform available because it has gotten so out of hand. That along with whatever they are being exposed to that makes suicide even an option. Do not sit idly by and let things happen. Take a chance on someone (that goes for you as well, adults), because sometimes it is a single act of human compassion that can turn the tide in a person’s life.
9. Body Shaming.
We are all different, which means our bodies are also different. Diet and genetics play a significant role, but they don’t define us. We have so much more to worry about, so let us be better than we’ve been. That doesn’t mean let it all hang out, either, as there are other avenues to getting attention, if that is a reason why. And, if the previous is indeed the case, find the root cause of that reason and deal with it constructively. So your butt isn’t big (or it is, in your opinion), or you have fat in places you don’t want it. Or you consider yourself to be too thin. WE. ARE. NOT. PERFECT. We need to stop acting like or being told that we should be, or try to conform to some ridiculous made-up “standard”.
8. Men wearing clothing that is uncomfortable for them: super skinny jeans, rompers, short, cropped pants, etc.
I don’t care what fashion dictates. Men wearing ANYTHING that constricts the blood flow to their extremities and junk is a definite NO (unless it’s workout wear, you play professional sports, or you’re fighting comic book villains). If having a lower sperm count than a generation ago isn’t enough cause for alarm, I don’t know what is (there are, of course, other issues why this is the case, so don’t kill the messenger). And, men…you can’t convince me that you feel good in those tight clothes. Even I don’t like it, and I’ve worn stockings most of my life. While on the subject…
7. Sagging pants.
There are so many reasons why this needs to stop. Aside from being absolutely gross, it’s unattractive and sloppy. And the audacity of wearing a belt to hold them to the tops of their thighs? Full freaking STOP.
Also, anyone over the age of 18 partaking in this nonsense seems to make questionable decisions, so red flag. I refuse to take any adult-aged person seriously if I can see either their underwear or their butt over the waistband of their pants. We have to hold each other to higher standards of decorum. The only thing mildly amusing about this fashion faux pas is the way it makes guys walk or run. Not going to lie-I’m always expecting, and maybe even rooting for, an awesome fall EVERY time I see someone running with their pants like that.
6. Excessive makeup.
Friends. I know that we all want to look our best at all times, and there is truly nothing wrong with that. I do draw the line, however, on excess. If your routine consists of putting on full war paint a la anything famous people (you can probably guess who I’m referring to) dictate, every day…please stop. For special occasions, sure-get your beat on. I think we’ve gotten so that we can’t look at our true selves and be appreciative.
5. Yoga wear or leggings as everyday wear.
This has become another norm. It’s also very lazy. I know people whose wardrobe consist of only leggings or yoga pants as actual pants. Or wearing that gear outside long after a workout. Now, I don’t know about you, but my skin is very sensitive, and leaving anything with sweat on it for an extended period will turn it into a mess of blemishes, no matter how moisture-wicking the fabric claims to be. Plus…visible sweat stains…yuck-o-rama.
4. Wearing sleepwear of any kind outside.
You know who you are. I’m not going to point you out. I just need you to know that it’s not okay to look like you’ve just rolled out of bed and didn’t even try. Unless you are Mormon, live a primarily agrarian lifestyle, or are Laura Ingalls, bonnets are a NO. Decorative scarves are fine, however, because their wear could be related to a health issue. Wearing pajamas outside, though, no matter how cute and comfortable, are wrong on so many levels. Only those under the age of 2 should be able to get away with it. Honorable mention: Victoria’s Secret’s Pink logo slapped across your butt, at any age. Heck no.
3. Divisive politics or rhetoric.
We have to do better as a country, and as human beings. America is supposed to be the beacon of hope for the oppressed, her citizens should not be the oppressors. Many of us have already endured quite a bit in that area, and we’re all trying to live the dream that’s offered to us by living here. Let us not make that difficult for our fellow person, or elect those who excel at doing so. On that note…
2. Trump’s “presidency“.
I’m probably going to catch a lot of flack for this, and I don’t care, but let me ask those of you who support him these simple questions: why is it so easy to set aside your ethics and decency to follow this xenophobic, uber-jingoist SOG? What have YOU truly lost for minorities and immigrants to be such a hindrance to your life? Not to mention his complete disrespect for not only the women in his own life, but in general. Are you so mired in you own B.S. that this direction is where you want to head? He wants to turn our country into a totalitarian nightmare. Isn’t that one of the very ideologies the Founding Fathers built this nation against? Don’t misunderstand me-I realize that the chances are slim to nil for actually removing him from office considering the very weak indictment from Congress. I think they forgot about the needing to be unequivocally guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors portion. *face palm*
Whether left, right, independent, green or otherwise, you all have to admit that this was a bad idea from the start. Also, children in cages? WTF? Let us PLEASE do better in this year’s election.
1. Doubt.
Whatever doubts you had about anything, be it a new career or taking a leap of faith, let the year’s end put the kibosh on that line of thought. I could insert cliches aplenty here (and this post has a few already), but I’ll leave you with this; only you can decide your destination, but you have to at least try to get there. Losing a job isn’t a fail. Losing money isn’t a fail. Losing in general isn’t a fail. Not trying, or attempting to try…that’s definitely a fail. Take it from me and everyone else who’s made a move that seemed frightening to others. Sometimes you just gotta do it, you know?
Happy reading!
